Conference Program and Registration

The IRC-2013 is a three-day conference, beginning with a welcome reception on the evening of Tuesday, 25 June 2013 and ending on Friday afternoon, 28 June 2013. Pre-conference workshops will be held on 24–25 June 2013.

This page will be updated with an agenda and more detailed program information in early 2013. Please stay tuned!

Program information

The conference will offer ample time for discussion and informal interactions between junior and senior researchers from all over the world, to ensure a lively exchange of ideas. Each day of the conference will feature a keynote lecture in the morning, followed by parallel sessions through the afternoon, giving participants access to a range of topics in educational research and assessment. Each parallel session will include three presentations organized around a thematic strand relating to one or more of the IEA projects, such as TIMSS, TIMSS Advanced, CIVED, ICCS, PIRLS, prePIRLS, TEDS-M, and ICILS.

Participants of the workshops and the conference are warmly invited to attend a reception on Tuesday, 25 June. The social program also includes a group dinner on Thursday, 27 June. The reception and dinner will provide a relaxed social opportunity for attendees to make and renew acquaintances. Partners and family members are also welcome to take part in the social activities.

Participation in the conference, workshops, and social program is free, but participants are required to register via the online registration system.

Keynote speakers

Prof Dr Larry V. Hedges, Northwestern University, United States

Prof Dr Berinderjeet Kaur, National Institute of Education, Singapore

Prof Dr Eckhard Klieme, German Institute for International Educational Research, Germany

Prof Dr Michael O. Martin and Prof Dr Ina V.S. Mullis, Co-Directors of TIMSS and PIRLS, will present a special keynote session on relative school effectiveness in reading, mathematics, and science.

Online registration

Online registration is mandatory for all participants, including presenting authors, co-authors, and reviewers. Registration for the conference opens on 28 February 2013 and closes on 15 May 2013. During the registration process, you will have the opportunity to register for one of the pre-conference workshops, the main conference, and the activities of the social program. During this time you will also be asked to indicate if you are bringing any guests, and if you have any dietary restrictions.

If you are an author or reviewer, please log in to the online submission and registration system with your existing user name and password. You can then register for the conference by clicking "Register as Participant" in the overview list. If you have not used the online system before, you will be asked to create a user account. Please create only one account, as this will be used to manage all details concerning your registration for the activities of the conference.

Once your registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation email, which will also include instructions for arranging accommodations at one of the conference hotels (see Accommodations and Travel for details).
