Our Data

The IEA Data Repository

Our data repository offers data and documentation files from a number of completed IEA studies. These studies include CIVED, ICCS 2009, ICILS 2013, PIRLS (2001, 2006, 2011), prePIRLS 2011, the Reading Literacy Study (for countries that administered the test in both 1991 and 2001), TEDS-M, SITES (Module 1, 2006), TIMSS (1995, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015), and TIMSS Advanced (1995, 2008). Data from ongoing studies are added to our repository after the release of the respective international databases.

Software for IEA data

We currently offer two software applications that will allow you to analyze, view, and explore data from our studies. They are the IDB Analyzer and the Data Visualizer. You can also access data through the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) International Data Explorer. Select the software you prefer and obtain the data you need.

IEA IDB Analyzer

Used to combine and analyze data from all IEA’s large-scale assessments, as well as analyze data from most major large-scale assessment surveys, including those from the US National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), and those conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

You can find video tutorials on how to use this software here.

Data Visualizer

Enables you to visualize trends in TIMSS and PIRLS data over time. Also lets you visualize data in the form of graphs and world or regional maps.

NCES International Data Explorer

Developed by the NCES, this software lets you explore TIMSS and PIRLS data.

Aggregated and complementary data

XTXS is a comprehensive source of education-related data. It complements the sources already available in the IEA Data Repository by providing for data from both IEA and non-IEA studies as well as other information. Access XTXS here.
