The internationally comparative ICILS (International Computer and Information Literacy Study) provides data for monitoring and improving the quality of school work in the field of digitalization. In Germany, the study is funded by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and co-financed by the European Commission as part of the European education monitoring program. In 2023, ICILS was conducted in Germany for the third cycle following up from the previous two cycles in 2013 and 2018. The focus is on examining the computer and information-related skills of eighth-grade students and recording the school framework conditions for learning and teaching digital media.
The findings will be used to; derive information for the equal opportunities promotion of students' digital skills; for the initial and further training of teachers; for the contemporary further development of curriculum content; for the development of digital teaching and learning materials and; for the further development of school framework conditions.
