Institutional membership is open to any institution that has a strong research tradition and is concerned with promoting, supporting, and/or conducting educational research related to student achievement.

Member institutions are responsible for:

  • Implementing IEA studies within their countries;
  • Raising funds for national project costs and international coordination; and
  • Disseminating findings from IEA studies to a broad audience of government officials, policymakers, researchers, educators, and the media.

Membership also requires designation of a permanent representative to the IEA's General Assembly, which meets annually. Read more about becoming an IEA member here

To join IEA as an institutional member, please fill in the application form and submit it to IEA Amsterdam.

Join our studies

All education systems (country, state, or city), including those in countries that are not currently IEA members, are welcome to join IEA studies. To join one or more of our studies, please apply to the permanent secretariat of IEA in Amsterdam.

If your country is not yet a member of IEA, our secretariat will ask you about your plans for organizing the study at the national level. IEA expects all participating countries to appoint their own national center, a national research coordinator (NRC), and a national committee consisting of experts in the curriculum and policymaking domains and in the technical aspects of implementing the study. The committee must be available for consultation throughout the project.

For more information about the requirements of implementing an IEA study in your country, please refer to the Tasks of the NRC and national center in IEA studies document. To enroll your country in a study or to inquire about current and future projects, please contact IEA Amsterdam.
