Test administration training for Rosetta Stone main survey

IEA representative Oliver Neuschmidt (Co-Head International Studies Unit) together with colleagues from the CONFEMEN met in Dakar to support the team from the National Institute for Study and Action for Development in Education (INEADE) with conducting the Main Survey Rosetta Test Administration training.

The aim of the Rosetta Stone project is to link the results of regional assessments with IEA's TIMSS and PIRLS achievement scales, thus making it possible to project the location of each country participating in the regional assessments onto the TIMSS and PIRLS scales, and measure their progress against SDG4 targets.

To achieve this purpose, three PASEC (Programme d’Analyse des Systèmes Educatifs de la CONFEMEN) countries (namely Senegal, Burundi, and Guinea) will re-administer the student elements of the PASEC test in combination with specifically designed TIMSS and PIRLS Linkage material (the so-called Rosetta booklets) in March 2020.

The test administration seminar conducted in the centre régional de formation professionnelle des enseignants (Crfp) in Rufisque contained lectures as well as practical exercises to prepare a team the 50 participants for the main data collection starting next week in 100 schools around the country and include an implementation of PASEC and Rosetta instruments in a nearby school.

The UIS and IEA Rosetta Stone initiative is already underway in connection to the Latin American regional assessment, ERCE, implemented by UNESCO Santiago.
