IRC 2023 - Venue and Transport

The IEA International Research Conference (IEA IRC) will take place at the Royal Marine Hotel, Dún Laoghaire in Dublin, Ireland. This spacious hotel and conference center is located on the Dublin coast, with views of the Dún Laoghaire Harbour and Scotsman's Bay.

 
 
Venue

The location is the Royal Marine Hotel, Marine Road, Dún Laoghaire, Dublin, A96 KO63, Ireland. 

The Royal Marine Hotel is regarded as one of the finest 4 star Hotels in Dublin and has hosted many Heads of State, Kings, Queens and celebrities including old blues eyes Frank Sinatra, Laurel & Hardy and Charlie Chaplin. Queen Victoria had a 16 course breakfast when she arrived off the boat at Dun Laoghaire and even Michael Collins is believed to have hidden out in Room 210 with Kitty Kiernan.

Royal Marine Hotel

The Royal Marine Hotel is located in Dún Laoghaire, which is a coastal town on the Southside of Dublin.

Dún Laoghaire town is dotted with places of interest including the National Maritime Museum of Ireland, the James Joyce Tower and Museum, the world’s first suburban railway station, what was the world’s largest asylum harbor for over 50 years, the Baths and the strikingly modern DLR Lexicon.  Visitors can join guided tours, take part in water-based activities such as paddle boarding and kayaking or simply take a stroll on the mile-long East Pier. There are also plenty of shops, cafes, and restaurants to explore on the Victorian streets of this old town. More information on what’s on around Dún Laoghaire is available here.

Transport

The IRC venue is easily reachable from the center via the Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART), Dublin’s railway. There are four easy options to the venue from Dublin Airport:

  • Taxi, a 40-minute drive from the airport (€40-50*).
  • Dublin express 782 or 784 to the center, transfer to DART (train) to Dun Laoghaire, and a four-minute walk to the Royal Marine Hotel. The total travel time is 1 hour. Tickets for Dublin Express (€7) and Dart (€2.65) are sold separately.
  • Bus 703 to Killiney, 13 stops from Dublin Airport to Royal Marine Hotel. Less than 50 min; €2 using a Leap Card; €2.60 if paying with cash.
  • Aircoach (route 703 to Killiney) to Marine Road in Dun Laoghaire, a two-minute walk from the hotel. (40 min; €12 single, €17 return).

Registration

Registration has now closed. The conference participation fee is €150.
