Our Partnerships

IEA projects are joint ventures, relying on a spirit of cooperation between partners to achieve common goals. As a nonprofit, tax-exempt institution, the IEA is supported by its members and by funds from government agencies, foundations, and other organizations around the world. Over the last 60 years, the association has worked with a number of international institutions and agencies in different capacities to carry out its mission.

Our study centers

IEA studies are directed by international study centres who work closely with IEA colleagues and national representatives to develop and implement all aspects of the study. Since their inception, our two flagship studies, TIMSS and PIRLS have been expertly directed by the TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Center at the Lynch School of Education in Boston College. Our ICCS and ICILS studies are directed by the Australian Council for Educational Research. IEA is grateful to our partners at both study centers for their expertise, guidance and long-term collaborations.

Benefits of collaboration

A partnership with us can:

  • Encourage the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and insights in order to improve the provision of quality education worldwide;
  • Provide a forum for cooperation, development, and implementation of comparative studies in education;
  • Provide education systems with the support they need for continuous development and improvement.

The IEA fosters the establishment and growth of national expertise in assessment methodology and administration by delivering seminars and training for local staff engaged in national assessment activities. This promotes the development of evidence-based educational policies and practices, and a strong network of international collaboration and exchange.
