IEA Events Highlights 2025

Two IEA study releases 
2025 saw the release of the international results for two of IEA’s study. The 2023 Linking Study for the new Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LaNA) took place in Senegal back in February with one of the main takeaways from the release being that 70% of students across participating countries the new Basic International Benchmark of mathematics achievement. In December IEA saw the release of the TIMSS 2023 Longitudinal study International Results, this is the first student-level longitudinal extension of TIMSS that followed the same sample of students from 2023 to 2024. Thanks, and gratitude is extended to INEADE and Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation of Montenegro and the Examination Center of Montenegro for hosting the releases.


11th IEA International Research Conference (IRC)
In June the 11th IEA IRC took place at the Roma Tre University and was hosted by both the University and INVALSI. Over 260 delegates from 42 countries attended the conference under the theme of Researching Education for Sustainable Futures and had four separate session strands dedicated to critical education issues to attend across the three-day conference. The conference was preceded by hands-on workshops dedicated to analyzing data from international large-scale assessments. One delegate commented on the event as “A valuable experience. It gave me a chance to meet outstanding researchers and engage in valuable discussions regarding very important educational issues.” 


66th IEA General Assembly meeting
Each year, IEA country representatives meet at the General Assembly meeting to review IEA studies, projects, initiatives, and to discuss IEA governance. This year IEA welcomed Josef Basl and Carolina Faundez to the Standing Committee as ratified by the General Assembly. A special thank you is extended to our hosts, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, National Institute of Educational Assessment, who hosted the meeting from 06-09 October 2025 in Madrid, Spain. 


National Research Coordinator meetings
Collaboration is at the heart of IEA’s works and with the beginning of three new study cycles we were delighted to reconnect with new and familiar contacts at the National Research Coordinators (NRC) meetings that took place this year across all IEA flagship studies this year in Germany, Netherlands, Serbia, Portugal, Australia, Poland, and Slovenia. We are very grateful to all who hosted an NRC providing a forum for discussion and progress in IEA study cycles.


Partner events
The IEA Board of Directors and IEA Chair have spoken at a variety of events this year spanning from Oman to Argentina for a host of our partners.
