The IEA R&D (Research and Development) call for 2024 is open. IEA invites research proposals to improve and advance the science and methodology of IEA studies ensuring that they remain at the forefront of international large-scale assessments in education.
The R&D program welcomes proposals from all groups, and awards will be based on proposal merit only. External researchers (e.g., individuals or those associated with a university or survey organization), staff and experts from IEA study centers, and IEA staff may submit a proposal.
The fourth R&D call is thematically open, continuing to build on IEA’s mission to advance research and innovation. IEA would like to highlight areas of importance that align with current IEA interests and priorities:
- accommodating diversity by making assessment and questionnaires more accessible (e.g., for students with special educational needs) or better targeting them to the contexts of low- and middle-income countries;
- adaptive and/or longitudinal designs (e.g., by taking advantage of research opportunities across grades and levels);
- systematic conceptualization of log and process data use from computer-based assessments and surveys;
- dealing with bias and non-response (e.g., sources of sampling bias, attrition in longitudinal studies, use of replacement units);
- updating operational processes (e.g., instrument translation, adaptation and verification, strategic data cleaning, falsification detection); and
- data visualization (e.g., to better communicate uncertainty or development over time).
Further information about the call and how to apply can be found here.
The Call has been granted a one-week extension. Proposals may be submitted via the Good Grants system by 13:00 CEST 23 September 2024.
An informational webinar was hosted by IEA on 10 July 2024 at 14:00 CEST. IEA will present the R&D call for proposals. The informational webinar gave an opportunity to ask questions regarding the call.
