IEA Research for Education, dedicated to investigating critical questions in educational research, released its 16th and 17th volumes this year, continuing to deliver important data-driven findings to the research community. Both volumes, in total, have over 21,000 downloads.
The first volume published this year, Knowledge and willingness to act pro-environmentally: Perspectives from IEA TIMSS 2019 and ICCS 2016 data, was released in January 2025 and investigates the extent to which education for sustainable development is delivered and realized within various educational systems. The editors and International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) Study Directors, Maria Magdalena Isac and Andrés Sandoval-Hernández, presented the volume at the 11th IEA International Research Conference in June 2025.
The second volume, Dinaric perspectives on PIRLS 2021: Prerequisites and conditions for teaching and learning to read, published in September and released in Belgrade, Serbia, offers a comprehensive examination of reading literacy in the Dinaric region, using data from IEA’s Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) 2021. It is edited by Żaneta Džumher, Paulína Koršňáková, and Sabine Meinck. The volume represents a collaborative effort among national research coordinators, IEA experts, scholars, and colleagues from Albania, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia, providing regional and international insights while supporting progress toward high-quality, equitable education.
What is upcoming in 2026?
- A Call for Proposals using Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2023 Longitudinal data, the first student-level longitudinal extension of TIMSS.
- Volume 18: Educating pupils for environmental sustainability in Europe. Findings from TIMSS 2023 data.
