Growing Through Challenge
The past year has been challenging in many ways, with old and new concerns being brought to the surface. The situation continues to fluctuate–both within and between countries–and requires us to learn to live with uncertainty. This year’s issue of the IEA Insider reflects on the current times and struggles we are engaged with, while drawing on the growths and learnings across IEA and other study activities since the last issue.
The size of this year’s IEA Insider reflects our desire to stay connected even during these trying times, and to keep IEA members and friends updated about all the significant work taking place in the backdrop of the pandemic. The IEA Insider is available online here.

IEA Insider 2021 also contains a new section, IEA Expertise, that brings together contributions related to additional pursuits that came to fruition in 2021, such as the release of our first Research and Development call, and the second successful edition of our Beyond Results workshop, as well as new and exciting releases of IEA software.
All the work reflected in this year’s IEA Insider, the issue with the longest list of contributors, would not have been possible without the commitment of IEA colleagues, our members, national and international study centers–the TIMSS & PIRLS International Study Centre at Boston College and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER)–and our many partners, such as the European Commission and UNESCO.
