R Integrated with the IEA IDB Analyzer

For the past few years, we have observed an increasing interest from the IEA community to use R with the IEA IDB Analyzer. We are happy to announce that this is now possible with the updated version of the Analyzer!

The new version allows you to run the IEA IDB Analyzer together with R and Posit (formerly known as RStudio). During setup, it will automatically install all necessary R packages. It provides a conversion, merge, and analysis module. The conversion module translates SPSS files of all contemporary international large-scale assessment (ILSA) such as TIMSS, PIRLS, ICCS into the R format. The merge module enables data set merging, and the analysis module allows conducting several types of analyses, such as estimating percentages and means, and benchmark analysis, with appropriate standard errors, and implementing significance testing. Future updates in 2022 will include further functionalities including percentiles and linear regression.

The user interface mimics that of the established version running on SPSS or SAS, so that familiar users will be able to switch to the R version without trouble, if they wish to do so. The software remains to run however also on SPSS and SAS.
