Teaching Reading Comprehension in a Digital World: IEA Research for Educators Volume 2 Out Now!

Teaching Reading Comprehension in a Digital World: Evidence-Based Contributions Using PIRLS and Digital Texts—the latest volume in the IEA Research for Educators series, developed and authored by Expertisecentrum Nederlands (Dutch Center for Language Education)—aims to empower teachers to integrate digital text reading into their curriculum.

This open-access volume focuses on the changing landscape of reading comprehension in an increasingly digital world. It highlights current research on digital reading, offers teaching principles evidenced by data from PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study), and showcases teaching practices from schools in Ireland, Italy, and Singapore.

This volume is accompanied by a Teacher Snippet highlighting how the six didactic principles for teaching reading comprehension for digital texts can be applied in the classroom using “Oceans,” a sample ePIRLS text and question items, to make the theory tangible and relatable.

IEA was delighted to release Teaching Reading Comprehension in a Digital World: Evidence-Based Contributions Using PIRLS and Digital Texts at the Education Support Centres Ireland (ESCI) Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 22 March. Thank you to ESCI for hosting the launch, which is available to watch on the IEA website.

See the volume announcement for more information on the book and release.
