Bangkok, Thailand
The 12th IEA International Research Conference (IEA IRC) will take place between 23–25 June 2027 at the Faculty of Education of Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, and will be preceded by pre-conference workshops on 21–22 June 2027, which will focus on secondary analysis of IEA data.
The 12th IRC is dedicated to the theme "Understanding Change, Advancing Education" to focus on how IEA data can advance education research and inform policy for sustainable and lasting impacts in a time when the landscape of education is rapidly changing.
The growing opportunities and challenges with integrating AI into education has forced rapid changes in a short period of time. IEA studies provide data to help education stakeholders understand both how students’ achievement and the broader contexts of education change over time in response to such developments. At the same time, IEA studies themselves must constantly evolve with the changing landscape, reflected in the move to computer-based assessments and revised study frameworks that reflect the influx and use of digital technologies in education settings.
Data from IEA studies help inform core areas of education such as reading (PIRLS), mathematics and science (TIMSS), civic and citizenship education (ICCS), computer and information literacy (ICILS), and literacy and numeracy (LaNA). They do so in a way that acknowledges that knowledge and achievement are only one part of a broader education landscape that includes the contribution of parents, teachers, and school principals, and the influence of the curriculum. Education continues to evolve in response to ongoing technological developments and broader global pressures. IEA studies can help inform the interplay of student achievement, well-being, and attitudes within this dynamic environment.
The IRC in Bangkok will be an opportunity for us to gather, share, and appreciate the past and future of IEA studies in a rapidly changing world. The pre-conference workshops will provide instruction on how IEA data and outcomes from IEA studies can inform education research and policy.
We look forward to welcoming you to Thailand to experience a stimulating environment where we can share our research and engage in discussions on the current state and future of education. We are grateful to the Office of the Education Council (OEC), who will be hosting us in Bangkok in partnership with Chulalongkorn University and the Equitable Education Foundation (EEF). We look forward to a successful collaboration and a productive 12th IEA IRC.
In partnership with Chulalongkorn University, OEC, and EEF.
To be hosted at the Department of Education at Chulalongkorn University.
