TIMSS 2023 Restricted-Use Data

The TIMSS 2023 Restricted-Use Data will only be made available upon special request by researchers. It contains all data freely available in the TIMSS 2023 Public-Use Database, plus the additional variables and files listed below.

Researchers who want to use the additional data below need to formally apply and provide reasoning why they would need the additional data. They need to agree not to disclose any individuals.

Under the umbrella of Restricted-Use Data, IEA provides the TIMSS 2023 Restricted-Use Event Log Data Files. These files contain timestamped records of students’ item responses, answer changes, and interactions with the assessment content. These interactions include general interface and navigation events, such as logging in and out, clicking to move between screens, and screen loading time. Documentation accompanying the data files provides detailed information about the types of events recorded in the data to facilitate their use. It also describes how the data files were modified for restricted use to maintain the security of individuals and assessment content.
