In 2023, a special administration of LaNA was conducted in six countries—Burkina Faso, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestinian National Authority, and Senegal—to establish a psychometrically sound linkage of LaNA to IEA’s TIMSS and PIRLS assessments. The linkage allows LaNA countries’ achievement to be reported on the TIMSS mathematics and PIRLS reading scales. In addition, LaNA introduced new Basic International Benchmarks to capture what students know and can do below the TIMSS and PIRLS Low International Benchmark, thereby extending the TIMSS and PIRLS scale range and improving sensitivity to emerging proficiency.
Data from the LaNA 2023 Linking Study is available open-access in R, SPSS, and SAS for further research and secondary analysis. Find the data repository here.
