IEA at Events Quarter One 2023

IEA started the year by attending and participating in a host of events. We look back on the highlights for the first quarter of 2023 and thank our network members and partner organizations for inviting IEA participation at their collaborative events and meetings.

#GivingBackToTeachers in Georgia

Series Editors of IEA’s two newest publication series, Andrea Netten, and Paulína Koršňáková, were delighted to attend and present on PIRLS and accompanying teacher resources at the National Assessment and Examinations Center workshop for teachers in Tbilisi, Georgia. The workshop introduced findings from PIRLS and launched accompanying translated IEA teacher resources.

CIES

At CIES (Comparative and International Education Society) Annual Conference 2023 in Washington, D.C., under the theme of “Improving Education for a More Equitable World,” IEA colleagues discussed the impact of COVID-19 on education using findings from REDS data. Dirk Hastedt also spoke on equating regional assessment results with international assessments using statistical linking in the Rosetta Stone initiative.

NRC Meetings

A host of NRC meetings took place within the first quarter of 2023.

In February, IEA and Boston College welcomed PIRLS NRCs in Amsterdam for a week of discussions regarding the PIRLS 2021 results, country reporting, and discussing the first steps for PIRLS 2026. NRCs also had the opportunity to continue discussions while exploring Amsterdam.

IEA was delighted to attend the sixth TIMSS 2023 NRC meeting hosted by the Czech School Inspectorate in March for scoring training. Over 160 attendees connected in Prague and discussed the next steps for TIMSS 2023.

INEE (Instituto Nacional de Evaluación) hosted a week-long NRC meeting in Madrid filled with conversation around data reporting and final results for the ICCS 2022 cycle. IEA looks forward to the results release at the end of 2023

Many country representatives and researchers met in Lisbon for one week of ICILS scoring training in preparation for data collection later this year.

March wrapped up with IEA Hamburg hosting two virtual NRC meetings for LaNA. The meetings were held in both English and French to accommodate all participating countries in the special administration. The NRC meetings provided a platform for discussions around test administration procedures.

Thank you to all who hosted and participated in the critical discussions at the NRC meetings.

Partner Events

Director of IEA Amsterdam, Andrea Netten, had the pleasure of presenting on IEA studies and beyond in the Seminar on Pupil Outcomes Assessments in Bangkok. IEA thanks EEFI (Equitable Education Research Institute), EEF (Equitable Education Fund), and CCE (Creativity, Culture and Education: The International Foundation for Creative Learning) for inviting IEA to speak at the seminar in March.

IEA would like to thank representatives of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in the Netherlands for joining IEA at the Amsterdam office in March. It was a productive afternoon filled with conversation around using IEA data for policymaking and identifying additional collaboration between the two organizations.
