Following the release of the TIMSS 2023 International Report, the open-access database contains a rich array of both fourth- and eighth-grade achievement and contextual data secondary analyses aimed at monitoring international trends in mathematics and science achievement and informing educational policy makers from around the world.
The international database comprises student responses and results from a mathematics and science assessment, combined with responses to student, home, teacher, school, and national context questionnaires. Data are available for all countries and benchmarking systems that participated in TIMSS 2023.
The data files are available in R, SPSS, and SAS formats, and can be readily analyzed with the IEA International Database (IDB) Analyzer, a downloadable application that facilitates analyses of TIMSS data as well as data from other large-scale assessments.
The data files come with the TIMSS 2023 User Guide for the International Database, an essential document that describes the database and its supporting documents and also illustrates the use of the IDB Analyzer.
TIMSS 2023 was the eighth cycle of TIMSS, administered for the first time in 1995. Preparations are underway for TIMSS 2027 and enrollment is open for interested countries.
