The study offers participating countries a valuable opportunity to examine student progress over time, deepening insights into learning growth and educational effectiveness.
TIMSS-L will provide countries with high-quality, internationally-comparable longitudinal data that:
- Contextualize achievement gaps and provide insight into how to address them
- Make information about achievement growth visible and available to education stakeholders
- Use longitudinal evidence related to home, classroom, and school features associated with learning gains to inform educational policy decisions
- Compare educational quality in a global context using an alternative outcome measure

All entities participated at fifth grade. Countries listed in bold participated at both fifth and ninth grade.
